My Precious Bowls series is inspired by the Japanese artform 'kintsugi' which is the repair of broken pottery and ceramics using gold. The Japanese see the break as an integral part of the object and value the imperfection as part of the history of the piece. By repairing with gold the flaw is given respect and the preciousness of the piece is enhanced.
This is also reflected in the philosophical idea of embracing the beauty in imperfection, acceptance of change and fate as aspects of human life. As we heal from damage, loss or trauma we are strengthened and become better from these experiences.
