Precious Bowls by Irish artist Mary Wallace
My Precious Bowls series is inspired by the Japanese artform kintsugi: the repair of broken porcelain using gold. Intrigued also by the Japanese idea of wabisabi, seeing beauty in imperfection, I have created a body of paintings unlike anything I have done before. Whilst the intrinsic beauty remains, the flaw is given respect and the preciousness enhanced. This concept has resonance for so many people. They are fascinated by my use of pure gold too!
